The practice of Ricardo Morales-Hernández(b.1980) consists in drawing a personal, political and cosmic story. He uses analog, digital and biological media with a main focus in extemporal drawing. Known for his paradisiac imagery evoking musical systems that reminisce the natural surroundings of the colony of Puerto Rico. Historical relations can be traced from: primitive markings, medieval marginalia, neo-expressionism and post-digital aesthetics while at the same time questioning the dominant discourses of contemporary art. He deserted studies in Media Arts, Religion and Social Sciences and been recipient of AIR–CPW- Andy Warhol Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts and Center for Image Science in Austria among others. Currently he works from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Bio

Ricardo Morales-Hernández (b. 1980, Puerto Rico) is an artist that use analog, digital and biological media  to expand original drawings, incorporate historical and collaborative graphics in a ongoing epic narrative. His stories are often feed by participative practices where participants dramatize and suggest creatures, places and time-based events that eventually populate his subjective visuals on variable media, objects, documentation and traditional artworks.

Working on parallel themes in theology, art, social sciences, music, history, technology and design since early 90's he now works as an artist/researcher for the Center of Image Science in the University of Donau in Austria. In the past had lecture in Beta-LocalCenter of Photography at Woodstock and International School of Design & Architecture among other institutions. Having exhibitions and residencies mainly in Europe and Latin America, he consistently writes, paint and draw since 1998.

Ricardo Morales-Hernández

The practice of Ricardo Morales-Hernández(b.1980) consists in drawing a personal, political and cosmic history. He uses analog, digital and biological media with a main focus in extemporal drawing. Known for his paradisiac imagery evoking musical notations and reminiscent of the natural ecosystem of the colony of Puerto Rico. Historical relations can be traced from: primitive markings, medieval marginalia, neo-expressionism and digital aesthetics while at the same time questioning the dominant morphology of contemporary art. He deserted studies in Media Arts, Religion and Social Sciences and been recipient of AIR–CPW- Andy Warhol Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts and Center for Image Science in Austria among others. Lives and works in San Juan, PR.

Started his visual experimentation in the 90’s with biographical, psychological and social investigations in painting and drawing. His work represents the ideal of a world wide government in perfect conditions and the disambiguations to understand and assimilate global changes. He appropriate images, articles and emblematic texts which refer to the history and its outcomes, testing sensibilities in relation to human nature, faith & belief systems.
